Tools to Tell Your Story

The holidays can be a stressful time for anyone, but especially for those who lack resources. The Brighton Center wants to offer hope for the holidays through its wraparound programs at the Kentucky Career Center in Covington.

While Brighton Center’s services help individuals find and prepare for jobs, the center provides further assistance. It offers a community of support, including education, addiction recovery, affordable housing and financial education.

“You can’t find a job if you can’t put food on your table. You can’t find a job if you’re busy trying to figure out how to pay your rent. You can’t find a job if you don’t have sufficient child care,” said Ellen Bates, The Brighton Center’s career connections program director. “We focus on helping [individuals] achieve their hopes and dreams and that comes with an array of our services.”

The center offers a variety of workshops, classes, job training and coaching. Together they build a plan to help people achieve their long-term goals.

“A lot of the people that end up at the Kentucky Career Center come from one of our other services,” said Alaina Broderson, The Brighton Center’s first impression specialist. “We can help them find a job, but we can also connect them to the other resources Brighton offers.”

Resume writing workshops are held every other Monday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and are open to the public. Specialists can also coach individuals through writing a resume in a one-on-one setting.

“One of the services we offer is assistance in writing a letter of disclosure,” Bates said. “If you have to check a box on an application, we want to provide our customers with the tools to tell their story.”

The Brighton Center’s services focus on in-demand careers: advanced manufacturing, healthcare, installation, maintenance, repair, IT, business, nance, transportation and logistics.

“We want to help people find careers, not just a job,” Broderson said.

Because every situation is different, the best way to get started is to call Broderson or visit the Kentucky Career Center in Covington to set up a one-on-one meeting.

The Kentucky Career Center is located at 1324 Madison Avenue, Covington, KY.
