A NEWSPAPER BEHIND BARS
RISE is the first newspaper distributed within county jails and correctional facilities. Each issue provides local resource information, coping techniques, success stories and more.
With RISE in their hands, individuals can prepare for life after release.
Issue 12: COMMUNITY VOICES
Our “Community Voices” issue publishes two times a year, and it focuses on stories written by individuals who are currently or formerly incarcerated. Issue 12 gives these people a platform to share their personal experiences, talk about what’s going on in the criminal justice system and express their view of incarceration, recovery, housing and more. In this issue, you’ll find stories about:
Anna Haye’s journey from heroin addiction to recovery.
Kyle Overmyer, a former Sandusky County Sheriff, and his view on incarceration and creating positive life change.
How Kristen LaCaze went from attending drug court and treatment to becoming a licensed peer supporter.
And much, much more.
After reading this issue, we hope you understand the many people and stories that make up our communities. Telling and listening to stories is the first step to shifting perspectives and creating empathy.
